Exploring Dunedin

Dunedin is the wildlife and heritage capital of New Zealand. There are many impressive working heritage buildings, including the Speight’s Brewery, the Gasworks Museum and the Taieri Gorge Railway. Lanarch Castle and Olveston are two fascinating stately homes, and the First Church and Dunedin Railway Station are both fine examples of Edwardian design.

When it comes to food and drink, Dunedin also leads the way. You can choose from any number of restaurants before heading to the brewery for a drink, finishing off with a tour of the Cadbury Chocolate Factory for dessert. Then as night descends, the nightlife awakes and Dunedin is transformed into a vibrant and alive City with plenty of opportunity for revelry.

The majority of Dunedin’s central attractions can be explored by foot, with many in walking distance from Dunedin Leisure Lodge.

Beyond Dunedin

Step beyond the city limits and Dunedin makes way for the wildlife.  At Otago peninsular you will find New Zealand fur seals, yellow eyed penguins and the rare Hooker’s Sea Lion.  You will also find the only mainland Royal Albatross colony.  Head north of Dunedin and there is the award winning Orokonui Eco sanctuary.  Then there is also the spectacular and changeable coastline found near Dunedin.

With so much on offer so close, Dunedin is a great place to base yourself for a few days…..and Dunedin Leisure Lodge is your place in Dunedin.
